Uber partners with more companies to provide driver insurance
Uber has announced changes to the driver insurance policy in a few states. Instead of partnering with James River across the U.S., drivers in selected states will be covered by other companies, such as Progressive, Allstate and Farmers Insurance.
Nothing changed in the way Uber covers accidents and there’s nothing drivers need to do for the changes to come into effect. The only difference is that drivers in Illinois, Wisconsin and New Jersey are now covered by Allstate, drivers in Georgia and Pennsylvania – by Farmers, and drivers in Arizona, Colorado, Florida and Texas get coverage from Progressive. The rest of the states are still covered by James River.
While you are covered by Uber since the moment when you turn on the driver app, you still need to purchase an insurance plan that covers your rideshare driving. Since Uber doesn’t provide collision coverage in Period 1 when you’re waiting for a ride request, you need to make sure that you have a rideshare friendly policy before you start driving for Uber.
